Microsoft a conçu DirectX 10 comme partie intégrante de Vista et a toujours affirmé son dernier API ne pourrait être utilisé avec aucun autre système d’exploitation. La raison à cela serait l’intégration de DirectX 10 au noyau de Vista, avec une approche matérielle plus orientée consoles. Mais aujourd’hui, le Alky Project est sous les feux de la rampe.

Une garçon appelé Cody Brocious, de San Diego en Californie, affirme avoir commencé à créer une panoplie d’exécutables Windows de sorte qu’ils puissent être utilisés sur un autre système d’exploitation, sans préjudice pour l’OS.

Le Alky Project est rendu disponible par la société Falling Leaf Systems. Il devient possible de faire tourner des applications DirectX 10, non seulement sur Windows XP mais également sur du matériel DirectX 9.

Cody Brocious, âgé de 19 ans, estime que grâce à sa technique d’ingénierie « inversée », les utilisateurs devraient pouvoir également faire tourner des jeux Windows sur MacOS X ou bien encore Linux.

However, Cody Brocious the Alky Project leader has released a full preview of DirectX 10 Alky preview compatibility libraries for Microsoft DirectX 10 enabled games. These compatibility libraries allow the use of DirectX 10 games on platforms other than Windows Vista , and increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn’t capable of running it. No reason for gamer to change or upgrade the OS and video card(s) to play the latest games.
